If you read the news then you are “in the know” on the recent jury award a couple received against Monsanto…. An Alameda County jury has awarded a Livermore couple more than $2 billion in damages after they claimed that Round Up, a weedkiller sold by agribusiness giant Monsanto, caused them to develop non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
The Pilliods owned four properties on which they used Roundup once a week for most of the year for close to three decades. This is the third of such verdicts granted just in the past year, but the others were only $76 and $89 million.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer, an arm of the World Health Organization, concluded in 2015 that glyphosate is probably carcinogenic for humans. Since 2017, the state of California has considered glyphosate a known carcinogen.
Bayer said it was “disappointed with the jury’s decision,” noting that it conflicts with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s position that Roundup is safe.
SO the issue is this:
Can we trust the US EPA? or is it yet another governmental oversight group that is effectively “paid off” by big industry. Clear there is overwhelming evidence that glyphosate causes cancer.
Monsanto and Bayer face tens of thousands of more cases with similar claims about Roundup’s toxicity, one of which I became quite active in.
A 2018 article in Food and Chemical Toxicology confirms the breast cancer links of using Roundup. 3
“Previous studies showed that glyphosate stimulates breast cancer cell growth via estrogen receptors. The effects of glyphosate on cell growth, cell cycle and molecular signaling pathways were measured. The results showed that HuCCA-1 cells expressed [in] estrogen receptor alpha … The data from this study indicate that glyphosate can induce cell growth in ERα positive CCA cells through non-genomic estrogen receptor/ERK1/2 signaling pathway.”
Another 2018 publication, the Journal of Clinical Nutrition ESPEN reported that glyphosate inhibits4 “aromatase that turns androgens to estrogens.” Yet another side effect of glyphosate’s disruption on hormones is “weak androgens and estrogen depletion coherently explain white matter asymmetry and dysconnection in autism,” reported in the journal.
I have for years advocated that we all move toward an all organic diet for our health, to avoid the massive numbers of health issues indemic to the US yet unseen in countries such as Norway, Sweden and many others who have responsibly restricted toxic chemicals in the food industry as well as synthetic additives. Genetically engineered foods result in severe problems as our body cannot utilize them properly, and the side effects are still being uncovered, none of which are good. I suggest you all watch this incredible documentary called “Secret Ingredients” to get a better education on how lives have been so badly damaged by these “artificial ingredients” and yet, upon reverting to an all organic diet, their lives went through a remarkable restorative process.
